Sarnath is an important Buddhist pilgrimage site located around 10 kilometers northeast of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, India. It is one of the four holiest places in Buddhism and holds immense spiritual significance for followers of the Buddha. Sarnath is renowned as the place where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon, after attaining enlightenment in Bodh Gaya, thus marking the beginning of the Dharma (Buddhist teachings) and the formation of the Sangha (community of monks).
